ABOUT OPEN THINKING SPACE

Our story started at U.C. Berkeley studying physics and mathematics. We loved teaching but found tutoring centers to be restricted on time. That restriction on time was adding unneeded pressure, anxiety and stress on the students leading to deteriorating mental health.

We wanted our students to enjoy learning not dread it. We believe learning is not a chore. So we opened our place where students could stay as long as they needed. By doing so students feel less pressure, they have enough support so internal anxiety does not build up, and they have plenty of time to learn from their mistakes to grow as a student.

We are reaching around a thousand students taught ranging from middle school to college. We've enjoyed the diverse teaching experiences we have accumulated. Students including those with learning difficulties, veterans returning from service to assimilate back to civilian life and even special needs autism students homeschooled to learn from the fundamentals to advance concepts of math & physics.

After working with such a diverse range of students, we have explored many different approaches for math and science. This helped us develop multiple teaching methods for students and apply the ones which work for them. Our goal was to create a space where everyone could openly think to discuss those different ideas, methods and approaches to solve problems. So we named it Open Thinking Space!
